Myofascial Release Massage

Myofascial Release is a soft tissue massage treatment that can be very effective on chronic injuries and pains.  It involves applying gentle and sustained pressure into the  fascia and connective tissue restrictions.

This gentler and slowing way of work, allows both the therapist and the client to better tune into the body.  It is less likely for the body to tense up or become defensive, especially when chronic injuries/pains are involved.

Fascia is a structure of connective tissues that surround muscles, blood vessels, and nerves. It provides a system of separate covering, as well as one continuous structure that connects the entire body without interruption.

In the normal healthy state, fascia is relaxed and has a viscous gel like texture.  It has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. When we experience trauma, injury, repetitive stress (physical/emotional) or inflammation, however, the fascia loses its pliability.   It becomes tight, restricted, and a source of tension to the rest of the body.

In the cases of chronic injuries and pains, once the related fascias are relaxed, then the muscles tensions can be released.

Fascia restrictions can exert excessive pressure causing all kinds of symptoms producing pain, headaches or restriction of motion. Fascia restrictions affect our flexibility and stability, and are a determining factor in our ability to withstand stress and perform daily activities.
